Bruce Campbell Rant for Victoria's Birthday!

Somebody on FB said that I need to watch "Man With The Screaming Brain " and it made me think...

I don't know if I'll ever meet Bruce Campbell but if I do, I'm going to ask him if he got ninja fucked (sorry, "Dog Park" reference. It's an awful movie, BTW, don't watch it!) by the lady in the blue dress from the 1983 interview.

Did you ever do that, make a list of the questions you'd ask particular famous people?

I think I got the idea from that old, weird show on CBC*, where Pierre Berton (A great Canadian "hero" and well-known pot advocate) would interview a famous historical person from Canadian history and they'd get some very famous stage actors to portray the historical figures.

And I always thought that it was interesting that they could find people that look like our money. (Their "Sir John Eh" was particularly striking, if I remember correctly, a dead ringer!)

And that it would be a good thing to make a list of questions to ask famous people.

Because as a kid, you don't really separate the two things, Hollywood and History, that is. Because, as we all know, in modern times, "History is Hollywood and Hollywood is History". (Well at least that's the way it feels if you live in North America!)

Anyhow, for whatever reason (well, actually, because I always thought I'd be a Time Traveller when I "grew up***"), I started a mental list of questions to ask famous people should I ever happen to meet them and like ya...

...I don't know if I'll ever meet Bruce Campbell, but if I do, that's what I'm going to ask him.

*That I can't remember the name of, and may not even be hosted by Pierre Burton, but which led to the discovery of this funny interview, which, considering the FB** status I posted earlier this morning is pretty darn funny!

**Written before the discovery of "THE Bruce Lee Interview": Still hasn't watched "My Name Is Bruce ", but that could be due simply to confusion created by watched a marathon of "They Call Me Bruce? " and "They Call Me Bruce? " on VHS when young...

***Which, thankfully, as of this post, has never happened! (The "growing up" part, that is, not the time travelling part, which I'm still hopeful about!")

Things I would like to Figure Out - Part 1

Back in the mid-90's I used to work summer evenings at Manitoulin Island's only health and international food store: The Island Pantry. I have fond memories of slinging frozen yoghurt on those hot summer evenings, which could actually be fairly quiet, given that, in those days, The Pantry was the only store that was open past 6pm. So, to entertain myself, I used an old tape deck to dub a pile of mixed music tapes from various sources, which mostly consisted of other dub tapes that I borrowed from other people.
My pile of mix tapes is lost somewhere in the sands of time, having been long since replaced by mixed CDs, however, there's one song form the old days that I would love to locate, but have never been able to find, due mostly to not knowing the title of the song or even the band that sings it.

It was a very strange song, very slow and dreamy, filled with a distorted male voice and long twangs of steel guitar. The only lyrics that I can recall are: "Sammy was a boxer, took a beating in the ring, hands raised in victory, something, something, something".

I have, of course, tried variants of these lyrics in Google, but to no avail, so I would be eternally grateful to anyone who might be able to point me in the direction of what this mystery tune could be!

Piratical Thinking

As a rather Piratical leaning sort, I've oft pondered just who will win the global Pirates vs. Ninja battle. I mean, obviously Pirates are much cooler than Ninjas, but those black enshrouded fellas can be pretty darn sneaky! So it was with much relief that I located this first ever "scientific" discussion of the whole Pirates vs. Ninjas issue!

Beauty

I recall a conversation with a friend once who decided to classify people in to two categories "what people" and "why people".

"What people" were the most common element of society, the worker bees, the drones as you would have it. There were concerned with what was happening to them in the immediacy and tended to be obsessed with the illusionary surface of the world.

"Why people" were more rare, they were inventors and leaders, the people that look underneath, shatter illusions, they're concerned with why things happen and how things work.

Now, while I think it's quite impossible to classify humanity into only two categories, I also know that the second definition very much describes a large part of my own personality. I've always taken things apart to figure out how they work, I never take anything in life at face value; I always have to ask why.

To a certain extent I'm convinced that while I'm enamoured with asking why, it also makes life more complicated, as a good part of each day has to be spent processing data internally, both input and output, or as my mom was apparently fond of saying GIGO! (Garbage In, Garbage Out)

The other day I found myself in an oddly disgruntled mood, I couldn't figure out what was wrong for the life of me. I processed my feelings over and over, trying to locate the anomaly. Not that repairing the error was even necessary, I was just driven to discover what it actually was, in other words, I needed to know why.
