General Tso’s Chicken
I was first introduced to the very tasty Chinese food dish known as "General Tso’s Chicken" back in 1998 while visiting the United States (oh, how I miss "good" Chinese Food, the little places in Sudbury just can't compare!) Little did I know that the history General Tso’s Chicken was filled all kids of political intrigue, including civil and world wars, Henry Kissenger and the history of Chinese food in New York City, go figure!
This article also includes a DYI recipe!
Bon Appétit!

OMG!!! That just happens to be one of my FAVE dishes! Dylon...my Dad makes the most amazing General Tao! I'll call you when he makes it (if he invites me over! LOL)!!
Sudbury has 'okay' Chinese restaurants. They're better than Espanola's though. We go to King Buffet and Sun Wah's when we're in Sudbury. I always go wherever my Dad recommends, being that he's Chinese and all! :) However, for real yummy, authentic Chinese food (withouth going to China), Toronto and NewYork have great restaurants.
(LOL) That's pretty funny! My favorite spot in Sudbury is Peking Gazebo on the south side of town, The Sun Wah isn't bad, but I've never been happy with the King's Buffet as I find their food is completely devoid of flavour. The Gazebo has a pretty decent buffet, of course the menu food is always better, but that's pretty much the story for anywhere in Sudbury. And ya, I wouldn't touch the places in Espanola with a ten foot pole and the place in Little Current just scares the heebeejeebees out of me!
Toronto has some really excellent spots for sure and it's nearly impossible to compare with real NYC Chinese, although, I'd have to say that the best restaurant Chinese I've had was in a little beat up place in New Jersey, I can't remember for sure, but I believe it was in Manville, but dang, was it good! My new personal favorite is the Mongolian Grill in Cambridge, as I can get as much stir fry as I want (usually four or five bowls), which means that I can get things super spicy with loads of noodles! M-M-Good! Typically I go for lamb with chow mein noodles, carrots, broccoli, garlic, sesame oil, about 4 hits of whichever sauce looks to be the hottest (or just one of each of all the hot sauces) and a hearty hit hot dry spices like cayenne and sometimes even Caribbean jerk.
Oh my! I must be hungry, time to make dinner!
LOL! You know, the only reason we go to Sun Wah's and King Buffet is because we don't know any other places in Sudbury! We'll definitely try out Peking Gazebo next time! Generally speaking, this end of Ontario is home to "Canadian Chinese" food...which isn't exactly a compliment! LOL! I mean, onion rings and french fries don't constitute being Chinese :) At least not the last time I checked! I know I'm being a Chinese food snob...LOL! My bad!
The Mongolian Grill is great! Oh and if you want Caribbean spices, did I not tell you my Dad is Chinese-Caribbean?? LOL! Jerk chicken, roti, curries....oh boy. I think I'm hungry again! LOL!
What about your spicy ramen?? ;p
Oh ya, I could never figure out why French fries and onion rings qualified as "Canadian cuisine" and then how that transferred to being a necessity to serve alongside Chinese food! (lol)
Oh boy! It sounds like your dad's cooking would be right up my alley! It's been ages since I had roti from a little weenie Indian place in Toronto but I still think it qualifies as the hottest thing I've ever eaten and you know I was sure that I ordered the "mild" version! (lol)
Peking Gazebo is pretty easy to find, just take the southern entrance (Paris) into the city and make a left at the South Ridge Mall, it's just up street, between the Micky Dee's and the Holiday Inn.
